But it would be interesting to see whether Micromax will be able to win back its glorious past, especially with the tough competition in the Indian smartphone market. The company has not yet revealed what phones would offer under the new lineup. A Geekbench listing from last month suggests that the first device will be called Micromax In 1A and will pack MediaTek Helio P35 or G35 chipset, 4GB RAM, and Android 10. The smartphone is said to have a 6.5-inch HD+ display, according to the report.
A 5,000mAh battery will power the phone. One of the biggest reveals is that the device may come with stock Android out of the box without any added bloatware from the company.
On the camera front, the 2GB variant is speculated to come with dual rear-camera setup with 13MP and 2MP cameras along with 8MP selfie camera at the front.
The 3GB model of the phone will offer as many as three cameras on the back. The setup will consist of 13-megapixel, 5-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. For selfies, it will offer a 13-megapixel selfie camera.
Earlier, Micromax's co-founder Rahul Sharma posted a almost 2-minute video on Twitter to announce the company's return to the smartphone market.
But reports say this phone will launch in early November. The company is expected to launch smartphones, accessories and other gadgets under the new "in" brand.
In the video, Sharma can be heard saying that while he was not defeated he was content with what he had achieved. That Micromax was planning a return to making smartphones - after a near two-year long hiatus - has been known since June but this is the first time, we're hearing something more concrete directly from the co-founder who only recently also launched his own spin-off next-gen mobility company Revolt Motors.
"But what happened at the border wasn't right. So, when our Prime Minister gave the clarion call for an Atmanirbhar Bharat, we gave a lot of thought as to what to do and made a decision to respond to that. And so Micromax India is coming back with a new smartphone called 'In".
