A sixth person has died due to COVID-19 in Northern Health

Henry said health officials will be watching the COVID-19 numbers carefully - as well as monitoring their ability to trace contacts of infected people quickly - to determine if more measures or a further extension will be necessary.

The update, which will come in a joint written statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, will be released in the afternoon.

Broken down by health region, the new cases equate to 148 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 294 in the Fraser Health region, 17 in the Island Health region, 31 in the Interior Health region, and 25 in the Northern Health region.

Sadly 10 more deaths bringing the provincial death toll to 331.

Island Health also declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Discovery Harbour long-term care home in Campbell River.

As of Thursday, 6,926 cases of COVID-19 were considered active, including 217 people who were in hospital for treatment, 59 of whom required intensive care.

A new health order was also issued, making the use of masks mandatory in all public indoor spaces.

"I remain confident and I know we will get through this, but we need to take more action now".

On Thursday, health officials announced another 538 people tested positive for the disease since the previous day. Check back for updates.
