A source told ESPN that a Clemson player tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday after practicing with the Tigers during the week.
"Clemson has followed all of the ACC's protocols in preparation for this game", he said. A media friend of mine was staying just a few miles from Doak Campbell Stadium and wanted to sleep in, but a phone call from his wife woke him out of his slumber to let him know he had a drive home to make.
"We are disappointed that we will not be able to play today's game against Florida State", tweeted Clemson AD Dan Radakovich. That might be the most interesting call of the season as we continue to dig for answers.
Clemson (7-1) has not played since a 47-40 double-overtime loss to Notre Dame on November 7.
The simple answer is no.
As was previously announced, the 2020 ACC Football scheduling model includes 11 games (10 conference plus one non-conference), played over at least 13 weeks with each team having two open dates. That led Florida State to say it was not comfortable playing Saturday's game, the source said. That would be great, but the only chance for it to be rescheduled is December 12th, which is the week before the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte.
There have now been 18 major college football games that were originally scheduled to be played this week but have now been postponed or canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The teams were supposed to play at noon in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles (2-6, 1-6 ACC) are slated to host Virginia next weekend, while the Tigers (7-1, 6-1 ACC) are scheduled to play Pittsburgh at home on November 28.
Pitt won't be an easy out.
The Seminoles are scheduled to play Virginia next Saturday. They reacted by beating Florida State 41-17 and then beating Virginia Tech.
