Coronavirus: India's tally reaches 89.6 lakh with 45k

New Covid cases in India rise by almost 50 per cent in two days following Diwali festivities

Almost 600 more fatalities in the past 24 hours brought the death toll to 1,31,638. The positivity rate in Delhi on November 7 was 15.26 per cent, which is below 11 per cent at the moment.

As many as 45,576 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported, with India's total COVID-19 cases now over 89.5 lakh, as per health ministry's November 19 update. There are 4,39,747 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country, which comprises 4.86 percent of the total caseload, as per the data.

India is now witnessing a steady decline in cases from its peak in September, with the country reporting fewer than 50,000 daily new infections during the last 13 days.

In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state of Gujarat, which has reported 192,000 Covid-19 cases so far, the government will impose a night curfew in Ahmedabad city from tomorrow.

Maharashtra: 17,57,520 total cases, 46,202 deaths, 16,30,111 recoveries. For the second time within the last seven days, active cases in the country did not register a decline on Friday, another sign that the pandemic could be rising again. Delhi reported 7,486 cases, Kerala 6,419 while Maharashtra registered 5,011 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.

While the number of new daily infections on Wednesday is still roughly half of those recorded during India's mid-September peak, public health experts have urged caution as there has also been a nationwide drop in the number of tests. Daily new infections rose to 5,011 in Maharashtra.

Health Minister Satyendar Jain said most of the Covid-19 deaths are occurring within 10 days of hospitalisation.

The university report said that mouthwash that contains at least 0.07 per cent of cetypyridinium chloride (CPC) showed "promising signs" of being able to kill SARS-CoV-2 when exposed in a lab.
