"A Rigged Election!" Trump fumed on Twitter Friday morning, calling the vote a "HOAX" and retweeting conservative personalities arguing that Biden's victory was fraudulent, and that Republican senators who accept the Democrat's win should be challenged in their next elections.
Since that time Trump has refused to concede, falsely claimed that electoral fraud was widespread, and filed a string of lawsuits seeking to overturn the results in several states. In an interview with Fox News Radio, Ernst said she believed Trump had the right to use the courts for any legal challenges, but added "there does have to be proof". Legal experts said legislators could pass a resolution saying the election was so marred by irregularities that the outcome could not be determined and then proceed to appoint their own electors.
The Trump team is focusing on MI and Pennsylvania for now, but even if both those states flipped to the president he would need another state to overturn its vote to surpass Biden in the Electoral College.
The state has until Friday to certify results that have been certified and submitted by the counties.
Rudy Giuliani, a lawyer for President Donald Trump, speaks during a news conference at the Republican National Committee headquarters. "It is hard to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action by a sitting American President", he said.
There are also discussions now underway with Trump about inviting Republican state legislators from Pennsylvania to the White House, two sources told CNN.
And on Thursday, the Trump campaign withdrew its last lawsuit in MI, according to Politico.
Giuliani's remarks on Thursday prompted criticism from Republican lawmakers as well.
Trump attorneys have now lost some 30 cases in courts even as they continue to make outlandish allegations they either don't present in court or withdraw before judges. Trump, the so-called racist, won a larger share of non-white votes than any Republican candidate in six decades. Some of those accounts have already been thrown out of court. If they resist, we must come to their defense. But following Trump's call, they said they had second thoughts. "They didn't elect Joe Biden", Giuliani said.
In a news conference after a meeting with Republican and Democratic governors, Biden lambasted Trump's actions, saying that he was sending "incredibly damaging messages" to the rest of the world about how democracy functions by undermining the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential elections.
In reality, there is no doubt that Biden has won the presidency.
He warned the delay could cause additional deaths as the pandemic surges to record levels across the country. "I would like to know exactly what this administration has in mind in terms of their Operation Warp Speed and how they plan it", he said. "It's going to put us behind the eight ball by a matter of a month or more, and that's lives".
The former vice president has focused on preparing his incoming administration, naming senior staff members and getting briefed by his advisers. "It sends a frightful message about who we are as a country".
Mr. Graham, who has acknowledged reaching out to other election officials in states where Mr. Trump narrowly lost, said that was ridiculous.
Michigan, which was worth 16 electoral votes, flipped from supporting Trump in the 2016 election to supporting Biden in 2020, in part thanks to massive support for the Democratic candidate from Wayne County. But there is great concern that Trump's effort is doing real damage to public faith in the integrity of US elections. But there has been no evidence of impropriety or fraud in MI, election officials have said.
