A woman holds a small bottle labeled with a "Coronavirus COVID-19 Vaccine" sticker and a medical syringe in front of displayed Pfizer logo in this illustration taken, October 30, 2020. Also, Tehama County reported 27 new cases on Saturday.
The Moderna CEO told WamS that his company was engaged in negotiations with the EU Commission for the delivery of its vaccine against Covid-19.
Adding more, Dr Moncef Slaoui even stated that they are planning to ship the COVID-19 vaccines to states within 24 hours of the expected FDA approval.
Despite this encouraging news - health experts warn coronavirus cases and deaths could rise following the Thanksgiving holiday.
"Our plan is to be able to ship vaccines to the immunisation sites within 24 hours from the approval, so I would expect maybe on day two after approval, on the 11th or on the 12th of December", Dr Moncef Slaoui, the head of the United States coronavirus vaccine programme told CNN.
Dr. Moncef Slaoui, the chief scientific advisor for Operation Warp Speed, says, "My expectation is that this vaccine will be as safe as all the other vaccines that are being used in the population".
Also earlier this month, USA biotechnology company Moderna released preliminary data, saying its COVID-19 vaccine appears to be 94.5 percent effective.
On November 17, Moderna, in its official statement, had announced that the independent, U.S. NIH-appointed Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) for the Phase 3 study of mRNA-1273 has informed Moderna that the trial has met the statistical criteria pre-specified in the study protocol for efficacy, with a vaccine efficacy of 94.5%. Each state will decide who gets the vaccine first with the recommendation that priority be given to health care workers, front-line workers and the elderly who face the highest risks of dying from the virus.
"We're clearly involved now in a very, very hard surge here throughout the United States and even globally", Dr Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, told NBC.
"So, if we get the overwhelming majority of people taking the vaccine, and you have on the one hand an effective vaccine, on the other hand, a high degree of uptake of the vaccine, we could start getting things back to relative normal as we get into the second and third quarter of the year, where people can start thinking about doing things that were too risky just months ago", Dr Fauci said.
Another hopeful milestone is one concerning Regeneron's antibody cocktail that was used to treat President Donald Trump when he came down with Covid-19. The FDA issues an emergency use authorization for the antibody cocktail.
