DeAndre Yedlin leaves Newcastle for Galatasaray

USMNT defender DeAndre Yedlin has joined Turkish giants Galatasaray from Premier League side Newcastle United.

Yedlin, 27, was surplus to requirements as Newcastle have two other right-backs in Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth.

Yedlin joined the Magpies in a £5million deal from Tottenham in 2016 and has gone on to make 125 appearances for the North East club.

The 21-year-old officially joined from Arsenal yesterday to become the Magpies' only addition in the winter transfer window.

Quite simply we've had three right-backs at the club now and I think DeAndre is suited to playing as a wing-back.

Ever since Steve Bruce arrived at Newcastle, he has craved greater dynamism in midfield, and Willock is renowned for his ability to power forward with possession, to both carry the ball up field and provide a goal-scoring threat.

"I want to wish him best of luck playing in Turkey for a huge club like Galatasaray".

Willock, who has made 17 first team appearances and scored three goals for the Gunners this season, was urged to go out on loan by manager Mikel Arteta, who argued the challenge of helping Newcastle in their battle against relegation would be an ideal experience.

Although there is no option to make the move a permanent transfer, Newcastle could ask Arsenal to allow the player to return to St James' Park on loan next season if this initial six-month stay is a success. Matt's been a very, very good servant to the club here and very, very well thought of, so we'll see, we'll see again later on in the day with that one.
