Cherokee County and Atlanta investigators are talking to each other, but neither has confirmed shootings are related. While officers were responding to the scene at Gold Spa, they were alerted to another shooting across the street at Aromatherapy Spa, where they discovered another person who had been shot and killed.
Baker said the suspect, Robert Aaron Long, of Woodstock, was taken into custody in Crisp County, about 150 miles (240 kilometres) south of Atlanta.
CCTV footage shows a man pulling up at Young's Asian Massage about 4.50pm just minutes before the shooting, authorities said.
"At the moment, it is too early to confirm that, but we have spoken with Cherokee County officials and we are looking into that possibility", Atlanta police said in a statement.
Sheriff's Capt. Jay Baker reported the suspect accused of carrying out the shooting that claimed the lives of four people was taken into custody on Tuesday.
In New York, members of the police department's critical response command deployed to Asian communities throughout the city in response to the shootings, a spokesman for the NYPD told CNN. Police said 21-year-old man has been taken into custody after a short vehicle pursuit.
It is unknown whether Long is connected to the shootings at the two Atlanta spas.
Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock said in a video posted on Facebook that his deputies and state troopers were notified around 8 p.m. that a murder suspect out of north Georgia was headed toward their county. Upon arrival, they found another woman shot and killed inside, Chafee says. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene and three were transported to a hospital, where two died, Baker said. According to a local CBS affiliate, the FBI is assisting in the investigation.
