The active cases have reduced to 14,77,799 comprising 5.13% of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 93.67%. Over the last few days, India's fresh Covid cases have seen downward trend, maintaining over one lakh infections every 24 hours, while the deaths have also remained about the 3,000 mark.

Continuing with the downward trend, India during the last 24 hours, recorded 1.20 lakh COVID-19 cases, which is the lowest one-day spike the country has recorded in the last almost two months.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says there are 115 new cases in Toronto, 112 in Peel Region, 33 in Durham Region and 34 in the Waterloo region.

The daily new cases are the lowest in 58 days, the ministry said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 36,11,74,142 samples tested up to June 4, of which 20,84,421 samples were tested yesterday. The daily positivity rate further dipped to 5.78 per cent, less than 10 per cent for the 12th consecutive day, the ministry said.

Declining case counts and hospitalizations in recent weeks has prompted to the province to take a look at reopening patios and shuttered businesses a little earlier than expected.

As of Saturday evening, 9,992,575 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, including 158,393 doses given Saturday.

Total fatalities hit 344,082 since the start of the pandemic in the country. The COVID-19 death toll climbed to 3,46,759 with 2,677 daily deaths, the lowest after around 42 days, while the active cases dropped below 15 lakh, the data updated at 8 a.m. showed.
